Volusia County's Community Assistance Division is now accepting applications from nonprofit organizations, cities, schools, and churches interested in participating in the 2024 summer camp scholarship program. The initiative aims to provide enriching summer camp experiences for children in the community.
Participating providers must operate camps from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, spanning at least six weeks between June 3, 2024, and August 9, 2024. The services offered should encompass supervised playground activities, sports, crafts, and field trips that cater to children between the ages of 5 and 14. Camps dedicated to serving special needs children may accept applicants up to 17 years old. Camps are encouraged to incorporate healthy eating and physical activity opportunities into their programs. To be eligible, applicants must demonstrate proven administrative capacity and possess a minimum of one year of experience in organizing summer camp programs or similar services.
Providers will be reimbursed on a per-child basis, with rates not exceeding the maximum weekly rate established by Volusia County and contingent on the child's attendance.
The application process is accessible through www.volusia.org/scs. The deadline for submitting completed applications is 2 p.m. on February 2. First-time applicants must attend a mandatory training session before submitting their applications. To schedule training, interested parties can contact William Mollentze at 386-736-5955, ext. 12965, or wmollentze@volusia.org by January 19.
The Children and Families Advisory Board will thoroughly review and evaluate applications at 1:30 p.m. on February 13 in the Ormond Beach Regional Library auditorium at 30 S. Beach Street in Ormond Beach. Agency representatives are strongly encouraged to attend the meeting for insights into the selection process and to contribute to the community's efforts in providing an impactful summer camp experience for the youth.
