World Language Students Celebrate at Festival

The 2024 Volusia County World Languages Festival took place on Saturday, March 2, at Seabreeze High School in Daytona Beach. Volusia County world language students showcased their linguistic skills and cultural knowledge by participating in poetry and impromptu speaking competitions, art displays, a talent show, world language karaoke, traditional world dress, Japanese cultural experience, and entertainment and food booths, sponsored by a variety of World Language clubs from around the district. Parents, family members, and friends attended.

Spruce Creek Elementary School French students earned Best of Show Talent Show (Elementary). Ms. Jacqueline Ouellette is their teacher.
Local partners provide money for student scholarships each year. This year, scholarships were presented to 7 students (L-R): Dr. Grace Kellermeier, Gabriel Isaacson, Isaias Salmeron, Zachary Schrager, Ms. Kim Griffith and Ms. Mirthia Feliciano-Perez, co-presidents of the VCFLA (which is why Seabreeze hosts the festival).
Mambo Dance Group is from University High School, Ms. Linda Lopez Rivera is their teacher.
Seabreeze Multicultural Club and Spanish Honor Society students were a tremendous volunteer crew. A Campbell Middle School student was awarded Best of Show for Traditional Dress. She is La Catrina on the left, Ja'Nyla Henry. Yalili Diaz-Sales was awarded 2nd place for her presentation on her Guatemalan Traditional Dress. Ms. Karelys Nunuz is their teacher, center.
