General Changes to Council Meeting Format to Be Reviewed

Tue, Jan 08, 2019 at 1:30PM

Port Orange, FL - Port Orange City Council is looking to make minor adjustments to how public Council meetings are conducted, which could benefit those looking to be heard.

The proposed changes to the order of the meetings include a few things the council calls “clean up” measures, but there is also a line item that would extend the Public Participation portion of the meetings from 15 to 20 minutes, allowing more opportunities for additional citizens to speak. Each person will still receive three minutes speaking time.

Also, residents making public comments will no longer have to state their address for the record when they begin their allotted speaking time.

The Council will also undoubtedly address the passing of sitting District 1 Councilman Bob Ford. His chair will remain empty tonight in memoriam. The Council will convened at 5:30 pm in a Special Meeting to declare Ford’s vacancy and discuss plans for the Special Election required to fill his seat.

City Council meets at 6:30 pm for the regularly schedule Council Meeting.
