The Marine Science Center announced Wednesday that staff will release a brown pelican and two gulls back into the wild at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 8, at Lighthouse Point Park, 5000 S. Atlantic Avenue in Ponce Inlet.

These birds, found on a nearby beach unable to fly and fend for themselves, were brought to the center for treatment and rehabilitation several months ago.

The Mary Keller Seabird Rehabilitation Facility, established within the Marine Science Center in 2004, has played a pivotal role in providing care and support to injured or distressed seabirds. Over the years, the facility has successfully treated and rehabilitated more than 19,000 birds, including the brown pelican and two gulls that will be released back into their natural habitat.

The Marine Science Center, located at 100 Lighthouse Drive in Ponce Inlet, welcomes members of the public to explore its fascinating exhibits. Visitors can witness the incredible work done at the turtle hospital and enjoy the marine display area and bird boardwalk. The center is open from noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays through Saturdays.
