Both the Volusia County Council and the Volusia County School Board have reviewed the population data from the U.S. Census Bureau and have started the redistricting process.

The County Council and the School Board encompass five districts, with community members elected to represent each district. District lines are redrawn every ten years with information reported on the County’s population per the U.S. Census Bureau.

Several versions of proposed district rezoning maps are provided to the County Council and the School Board by the agencies’ geographical information systems teams, ensuring that redrawn districts are compact, contiguous, and as close in population as possible while preserving communities of interest. Partisan issues are not applicable in the decision-making process.

Input from the community is a crucial part of the redistricting process.

The public may participate in joint meetings between the County Council and the School Board at 5:30 p.m. on October 11, 18, and 28, in the first-floor training room of the Thomas C. Kelly Administration Building off Indiana Avenue in Deland, submit comments during public comment at a regularly scheduled County Council or School Board Meeting in October or contact your County Council or School Board Representatives directly. Residents may also submit comments online at www.volusia.org/census or www.vcsedu.org/school-board.

The new boundaries for each district are to be adopted by both agencies in December 2021.
