While Florida is not forecasted to get directly impacted by Hurricane Teddy, the beaches in Volusia County will be affected by the storm, along with a high-pressure system off of the coast.

Strong surf, dangerous rip currents, higher than normal tides, strong wind gusts, and rain are expected this coming weekend.

According to a release from the county, in preparation for the squally weekend weather, the Volusia County coastal division will remove all port-a-lets and trash receptacles along the beach by end of day Friday. Water may be shut off to some coastal showers. Coastal will continuously inspect walkovers and ramps during this coastal event for the erosion, and access points may be temporarily closed to address any safety issues.

High tides for Saturday and Sunday are expected in the mid-morning, with a rough surf, which may close some vehicle access ramps until lower tides. Off-beach parking is strongly encouraged this weekend. Beachgoers should swim in front of a staffed lifeguard tower, as strong rip currents are expected. Scattered thunderstorms are also forecasted, which brings the risk of lightning. Beachgoers are reminded to exit the water and seek shelter in the case of thunder.

Updates will be posted on Volusia County Beaches’ Facebook and Twitter pages.
