Port Orange Police Department held a press conference Monday, providing the public with an update on the status of Robert Heikka, a teacher from Creekside Middle, who has been missing since October.

Heikka was reported missing back in October when he failed to show up for work on the morning of Monday, October 26, 2020. School staff visited Heikka’s home in Port Orange, that morning, informing police. According to Police neighbors last saw Heikka at home, on the evening of October 24, before his departure.

“Heikka’s last known whereabouts were in the Cocoa Beach/Cape Canaveral area. Hence why we are working with Brevard County Sherriff’s Office. We’re also working with Volusia County Sherriff’s Office and the FBI on this matter,” said Detective Sergeant Nagy of the Port Orange Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division, during the press conference.

Heikka was reported to be seen in the Canaveral Shores area at an ATM on October 24, but there was no suspicious activity reported from ATM activity. It was reported that Heikka had no history of Alzheimer’s or Dementia. “It was business as usual for Heikka, He planned to stay in the school for another year, before he retired,” said Detective Sergeant Nagy.

Heikka’s family is aware of the situation and helping the Police Department with details.

Officer Andre Fleming, the Public Information Officer for POPD, wanted to thank the public for their continued support and concern, especially from school staff, for providing kind words and tips on the matter.

Heikka was last seen driving his white 2012 Chevrolet Impala with Florida Tag KRZI78.

“We’re all concerned and have reached out to other agencies to make sure Mr. Heikka is found safely,” said Detective Sergeant Nagy.

Port Orange Police Department is asking anyone with information on Mr. Heikka’s whereabouts to contact the police. Heikka is 70 years old.
