The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is launching a new mobile app platform to improve public safety in the area. The Atlas One app, available for free download on iOS and Android, aims to connect, inform, and engage with the public in real time.

Replacing SaferWatch, the Atlas One app offers various features to enhance public safety, including real-time alerts based on the user's location, like crime tip submissions and photo/video evidence sharing, and other messages shareable to the appropriate deputy, detective, or other personnel.

While the app has multiple features to help enhance public safety, The Sheriff's Office encourages users to call 911 in an emergency. Even with the availability of an app, 911 is still the preferred contact method for anyone in need of law enforcement, fire, or emergency medical response in Volusia County.

The Volusia County Sheriff's Office is the first Sheriff’s Office in Florida to offer Atlas One to its residents, with the Fort Myers Police Department being the first public safety agency in Florida to deploy it in June 2022.

According to a release, during the initial launch of Atlas One, the Sheriff's Office will primarily use the app to send alerts when the Air One helicopter is overhead in a user’s general area. The app also connects users to the agency’s social media and website, where information on in-progress calls will be posted. Atlas One is just the latest tool deployed by the Sheriff’s Office to push information to the public, which also uses Everbridge to send emergency alerts and reverse 911s to residents based on geographic location.
